Heath and Paige Wilson met while serving children and families in Mexico during college. They do not believe it was a coincidence they met while serving others because that is the legacy they want to build in their family. The Wilsons have six children ranging from thirteen to three. Their family comes from two continents, three different countries, and eight totally different personalities. Their six children are ordinary kids, being raised by two imperfect parents who love Jesus and do their best to teach them how to love Him and love others. What matters most to them is family and it hurts their hearts to think about anyone in this world living without one.
Four years ago the Wilsons were on track to become foreign missionaries to Africa when the Lord gave them the surprise blessing of their youngest son Jude. Having six children would have created a significant budget to raise in order to serve on the foreign mission field and after receiving wise counsel from those in leadership, it was decided the Wilsons would not pursue foreign missions at that time. Even though the Wilsons were initially disappointed with the thought of staying home and continue serving in their local church instead of on foreign soil, they did not sit idly and grumble. They continued to serve and seek the Lord on how He was calling them to serve the least of these, especially children and youth while on U.S. soil.
During the next two years the Wilsons began to pray that if they couldn’t go to the nations, to the poor, to the lonely, that the Lord would gather them on the land right where they were. They began to pray for a way to use their home and land to bring others “home” to the Father. They began to pray specifically for orphan and vulnerable children and for families experiencing brokenness, asking the Lord to show them how to bring hope and healing to them.
The vision for Roots of Home came slowly and He is building it still. We continue to pray for the Lord to bring the right people around us to help us Plant Seeds of Hope and Grow Strong Families. But one thing we do know is the Lord is always at work even when we can’t see it or feel it. That is why back in 2016 before any part of this organization was an idea in anyone’s mind God planted Zephaniah 3:20 in our hearts and we painted it on the walls in our family home.
“I will gather you….I will bring you home.”
Behind every great organization is a team of people working together to dream, to challenge one another, pray for one another and work alongside each other. We are excited to introduce the team we are blessed to have behind us.
